Use a 5p diet for pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is a long and complex disease of the pancreas with many causes. One of them is: serious violation of the consumption norms of fatty foods, overeating, alcoholism. Adherence to special dietary rules for pancreatitis is half the success of treatment.

The Pancreatitis Diet is designed to replace and supplement poorly processed foods due to a lack of pancreatic enzymes.

Some patients think that the nutritional therapy for pancreatitis is no different from the 5a diet and continues to follow its recommendations. This is understandable because most individuals are initially on long-term treatment for cholecystitis, gallstone disease or hepatitis. They are familiar with Tables 5a and 5, which establish the nutritional standards needed for these diseases.

But if pancreatitis is found, the 5a diet will have to be revised. Changes that occur when the pancreas is damaged require adjustment of protein, fat, and carbohydrate content. The diet for pancreatitis patients was called "5p". It increased protein content up to 150 g (in number 5 it was 100–120 g), reduced fat (at number 5 at least 70 g) and carbohydrate (in number 5 at least 300 g). Cooking rules and restricting food choices are still common.

Essential dietary requirements

The recommended rules of the # 5p diet do not preclude the simultaneous use of digestive system diseases. They are very important for maximum pancreatic load.

Key requirements for dietary nutrition
  • Cook only boiled, stewed, grilled or steamed foods. The frying method is completely prohibited.
  • Observe the saving of the damaged organ by crushing all the dishes during the most acute phase of the disease.
  • Moderate temperature required (does not fluctuate drastically from cold to hot).
  • It is necessary to feed the patient a small amount of food every 3-4 hours.
  • Avoid eating too many meals at a time, overeating even diets.
  • Maintain a daily caloric intake of at least 3000 kcal.

The recommended dietary table according to Povzner takes into account options for exacerbation and then, when the pain is gone, but proper maintenance and continued nutrition in pancreatitis is veryimportant.

Select a 5p diet for exacerbations of pancreatitis

Clinical manifestations of acute and chronic pancreatitis in paroxysmal stage (throbbing pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea) do not feed the patient the usual way. The treatment regimen requires two to four full days of complete fasting. You can't drink either; During the first days, the liquid is injected into a vein.

After the vomiting and pain go away, the initial diet is prescribed for 5p. Its goal is to reduce the formation of gastric acid and help the pancreas focus all its forces on the struggle for survival.

The diet can be used for no more than two weeks, as it is unbalanced in composition (protein drops 60 g, fat down to 50 g, carbohydrates up to 200-280 g, with total content1800 kcal). Of course, bed rest and physical inactivity are recommended.

Pancreatitis patient's diet table menus include mashed mucus cereal soup, liquid cereals with water (not including semolina and rice), potato mashed vegetables or carrots with zucchiniboiled pumpkin (excluding cabbage in all types), jelly, jelly, pudding, a little white crackers. Everything is served and cooked without oil. You can drink water up to 2 liters, spring water color, weak tea slightly sweet. After this choice, according to the doctor's recommendation, they switch to the second food category.

Diet does not worsen pancreatitis

The beginning of an effective recovery is assessed by normalizing temperature, reducing the frequency of diarrhea, and eliminating pain. Diet for pancreatitis is being expanded, but maximum standards of protein, fats and carbohydrates are observed. It is necessary to include a set of vitamins in the current therapeutic diet to activate the body's defenses. Patients will have to adhere to this diet for life.
